Charles R. Downey was raised in Austin and graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Biology. Following completion of medical school in Temple, Texas, he entered active duty in the US Army and began his training in OB/GYN at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. He served in various locations around the world including a 5-month tour in Baghdad, Iraq in 2003. After 10 years of service, MAJ Downey was honorably discharged from the Army in 2004 and opened his practice in Richardson.
Dr. Downey lives in Richardson with his wife and 3 children. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He enjoys many outdoor activities including golfing, bicycling, and running. The Downey's are active at The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson.
Dr. Carol Norton, practically a native of Texas, attended college at Wellesley, outside of Boston. She graduated from Duke University Medical School and completed her residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She has been practicing in Richardson, TX since 1999. While medicine is her first love, she also enjoys SCUBA diving, reading, and writing.
A native Texan, Dr. Jan Risden obtained her bachelor degree from the University of North Texas and her medical degree is from Texas Tech University. Upon graduation from medical school, Dr. Risden returned to her home town of Dallas where she trained at Parkland Memorial Hospital. Since then, she has practiced medicine in the DFW area.
Dr. Risden is currently accepting new patients and will accommodate same day appointments. She welcomes women of all stages of life in her practice.
Cori Poovey is the Nurse Practitioner at the Campbell office location. In addition to working at Parklandís Womenís Clinic, she worked in emergency as an R.N. for 9 years. She has had extensive training to become a certified nurse practitioner and is qualified to evaluate patients and offer treatment. Her skills allow us to offer an additional option for treatment as well as seeing the physician.
Daphne is a native Canadian where she received her RN Training. After migrating to Texas in 1995, she furthered her education at UT Southwestern where she received Board Certification as a Women's Health Nurse Practioner in 2002.
Throughout her nursing career, she has focused on women's healthcare, practicing first as a staff nurse on an obstetrical unit, providing labor, delivery, and postpartum care. As her career continued, she gained experience in outpatient care, specializing in prenatal care, well women exams, and the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological disease. Her experience also included breast cancer risk assessment, diagnosis and plan of care. All of these experiences have enhanced her WHNP practice and allow her to provide a whole-health approach to women's health care. Her unique background in women's health and her real-world experiences in nursing make her the ideal person to provide the highest quality health care to patients.
